Holgate Beach Conditions & Surf Report

Holgate is the southern tip of Long Beach Island in Ocean County, where the developed island gives way to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge — a protected, undeveloped stretch of dunes and beach. It's the quietest, most natural part of LBI, popular for its calm, uncrowded shoreline (the refuge section has seasonal access rules to protect nesting birds). Swimming centers on the summer with guarded beaches in the developed area. Water temperature follows the open Atlantic — cool and bracing in the 60s°F in June, warming through July into the low-to-mid 70s°F by August and early September, then cooling through the fall.
