Ocean Beach — 'OB' — is San Diego's bohemian, free-spirited beach neighborhood, known for its long fishing pier, a beloved off-leash dog beach, and a laid-back, independent character. A wide sandy beach and steady surf draw locals and dogs alike to this counter-cultural corner of the coast. The San Diego Pacific is cool but relatively swimmable. The Pacific here is cold and currents can be strong, so check the safety flag and rip-current risk above, be ready for cold water, and swim near a lifeguard.
