Tarpon Springs, on the Gulf coast north of Clearwater, is famous for its historic Greek sponge-diving heritage and the Sponge Docks. Its Gulf beaches, including Fred Howard Park, offer calm, shallow, bath-warm summer water and a quieter, cultural alternative to the busier Pinellas beaches to the south.
