About Surfside Beach
Surfside Beach is a small, residential town on South Carolina's Grand Strand, just south of Myrtle Beach in Horry County. It calls itself 'The Family Beach', and it plays the part: a quieter, lower-key alternative to its busy neighbor, with a wide, sandy Atlantic beach and the town's 814-foot fishing pier as its centerpiece. The Lowcountry Atlantic is warm — low-to-mid 80s°F in summer and mild (upper 50s to low 60s°F) in winter. Check the safety flag and rip-current risk above, follow posted flags, and swim near a lifeguard.
Surfside Beach FAQ
When is the best time to visit Surfside Beach?
Late spring through early fall for the warmest water. Summer is the busiest stretch and when lifeguard stands are staffed; spring and fall are quieter and still pleasant.
Is Surfside Beach good for families?
Yes — the town markets itself as “The Family Beach,” and its calmer, residential feel makes it a relaxed alternative to Myrtle Beach. It faces the open Atlantic, so check the safety flag and rip-current risk above and swim near a lifeguard.
Can I bring my dog to Surfside Beach?
From May 1 through Labor Day, dogs aren’t allowed on the beach between 10am and 5pm; leashed dogs are welcome outside those hours and any time in the off-season. See the beach essentials above, and check the town’s rules before you go.
