Cape Hatteras Beach Conditions & Surf Report

Cape Hatteras is the wild, protected heart of the Outer Banks — the first national seashore in the country, where Hatteras Island juts sharply into the Atlantic at Cape Point beside its famous black-and-white spiral lighthouse. Miles of undeveloped beach, legendary surf and fishing, and the shifting shoals of the 'Graveyard of the Atlantic' define this untamed stretch of coast. Gulf Stream influence keeps the water warmer than the latitude suggests: warm in summer (upper 70s to low 80s°F), cool in spring and fall, and cold in winter.
